Looking for Places

My painting equipment finally arrived after a three month journey from Holland.  I'm looking for places to set up my easel.

Moving To Texas September 1st

I will have a new apartment
and have found one I really like,
just big enought for me,
my paints and
easel.

It will be a new life of art
where I'm free from cooking and maintaining
a home. Somehow the two don't
go together, cooking
and
painting.
At least not for me.

When I am painting I get totally engrosed
forgetting the time, forgetting to eat.
I do eat a good protein rich
meal before I start.

These are two of my best teachers,
Rembrandt first taught me about light and shadow.
Vincent van Gogh taught me
how to put my emotions in my paintings.
There are many others who have
been my teachers. I've stolen
the best from them all.

I've walked through Monet's gardens and
seen the light.

So come along with me to Texas where
I hope to be painting soon.
I'm beginning a new life and a new decade.
It will be a celebration of life.

One of the greatest art teachers of all,
Robert Henri.

Get Over It.....Just Quit.

This one has been a long journey.
Three months it's taken me to become satisfied enough with it
to sign my name.  It's finished or I quit.

These two photos taken with my android Phone.

What began as a quick, alla prima painting taking many twists and turns.
It reflected my state of being these past three months.

April, the beginning

My favorite and I should have
left it alone. But the realist in me has a constant
battle with the expressionist.

May, contrasts added but the blacks were a Mistake.
Here is where I started to overdo the painting thinking it needed
more depth.

June, thought I needed more contrasts. I used a
palette knife in this one for texture.
I was wrong.
Ugh!

Ever determined to get it right I kept on with my colors.
Late June, I took out the darks and replaced them
with dark green midtones.
I am satisfied now but it has been a struggle.
Never has a painting taken me so long.

You have a dozen children and all are fine except one.
You don't quit until you find the solution
for the problem child. This is mine.
That is the artist and teacher
in me.

Portrait Painters

These are the protrait painters from
Schildersweek in Domburg.
Since I'm also a portraitist I'm always interested
in how other artists see their subjects.
In a limited amount of time
these painters
whipped out some amazing
portraits for which they were paid
50 euros apiece. Pretty good for some thirty minute paintings?

Not a portrait painter...but he was fun to watch with the impasta paint
dripping down his canvas.
