Burning Bush, oil, Day 2

It's time to add some tint to the midtones today so I mix up some creamy white.
Breaking up the planes is what I want to do next. I want to
lighten areas that need to separate and come
forward. Tomorrow I'll lay in the darks.

The paint from yesterday is still wet and easy to mix.
These are details of four different areas.

A painting will always tell you what it needs
and this is screaming yellow at me.

With the white I add yellow and more yellow greens.
It doesn't have the depth I want but that will
come tomorrow. I've spent three hours
on the tints today and need to let it
rest for a couple of days.
There is lots
of paint.

Montage of two days of painting
At this point I've left the photograph and am responding to the painting.

I am a colorist by nature and would almost like to leave the painting
alone at this point. I like it. But it still has no
darks and I miss them.
Tomorrow they will come. I will put  my darkest darks
against my lightest lights.

Thank you, Anni. I try to put my art work on this blog but post a reference to it on Two Tumbleweeds sometimes. xo Jenny

I love feeling a little bit of your intellectual, artistic and emotional process as you work on the painting. It is very beautiful. I came over here at your suggestion after seeing your post on Orange You Glad It's Friday.

Hi Jenny, I loved your photos of azaleas and other spring flowers on the other blog, and I enjoy seeing your discussion of color, light, and dark, here. I could have commented there because I have a Google* site, but I too try not to use it.

(I am here because of the google+ thing on your other blog.)
beautiful flowers! I do love hydrangeas. I have 4 different varieties.
My mother called her mother "mother" I believe. That is how she referred to her. My grandmother died when I was 4 so I don't remember my mother speaking directly to her mother.
